Butterfly valves
With a butterfly valve - also known as a butterfly valve - you can control and regulate the flow of a fluid in a simple way. Explore our different butterfly valves on this page.
Butterfly valve: control and shut-off
A butterfly valve belongs to Shut-off valvesthat controls and adjusts the flow in pipe systems. You'll find it in water and wastewater systems, offshore, and in the agricultural and fishing industries, among others. You can also find models in 1-piece design.
Butterfly valves are most often made of either metal or plastic such as polypropylene, cast iron, stainless steel and bronze for marine applications. The design itself consists of a valve body and a disc, usually located in the centre of the body with an embedded spindle. Between the valve body and disc is a seal, also called a liner, which can be made of an elastomeric material such as NBR, EPDM, FKM or silicone.
To stop the flow, a lever is set for manual operation. Turning the valve a quarter turn switches it from open to closed position or vice versa. In addition, the handle can also be pneumatically or electrically controlled if you want automatic operation.
With a butterfly valve, you can block or allow flow in a fast way. This is especially useful if you want to be able to shut off pipework with fluids that have moderate pressures and temperatures - up to 16 bar and 120°C. Another clear advantage is the simple design and low weight. Compared to valves such as ball valves and hose valves, the price is often lower too.
